Below is part 2 of the Service community projects - 101 series of story ideas. Included in Part 1 and 2 are 101 of the best ideas for Community Service Project. There are many ideas for projects ranging from individual acts of service, to service activities for families, large group service projects. Whether you are looking for ideas of how to start and participate in making a difference, or if you are a regular volunteer - the reality is that we can all do more to help those who have much less. Take the ideas below and implement those that fit your personality, interests, and the situation. Be creative and allow these ideas to generate plans for new services and ideas that are even better and may be applicable in your city and the environment. More importantly, just do something - to serve, volunteers, and make a difference. Have fun and help others in the process!

Improving neighborhood:

  • Organize a neighborhood cleanup project to collect garbage, fix, and enhance local roads, parks, schools and community spaces.
  • Put them together a fundraiser to raise funds to beautify a community center, church, school, building, historic sites, etc.
  • Building fences or benches in places needed - also paint fences or benches in need.
  • Distribute flyers to donate neighborhood and cleaning. Residents can dispose of any old furniture, clothing, toys, tools, books, or "junk" - and then give them to needy families or charities (or dispose if needed).
  • Trim bushes or tree branches around street signs that are difficult to see.
  • Locate vacant or dilapidated and help clean, paint, do yard work, and embellish. Also, citizens of contact for help with painting, repairs and yard work.
  • Campaign to raise money or for other / better lighting of the streets.
  • Contact your local home owners, government office, community center, or Habitat for Humanity to see what projects you can volunteer in and help.
  • Organize a neighborhood to come together "once or twice a year for just a barbecue or game night, where people can talk, build friendships / relationships and welcome new people in the neighborhood.
  • To raise money to fix pot-holes, setting up speed bumps, to build a park, creating a sidewalk, planting trees, etc.

Outdoors and the Environment:

  • Recycling drive to organize a "to collect paper, plastics, cans, etc. Better yet, the campaign to have local communities get recycling bins for each resident.
  • Create a car pool with adjoining local moms to drop off children at school, or men and women go to work every day in your neighborhood.
  • Adopt an area - be it a school, park, river, street, a historic place, a community space, highway, parking, or business - Keep the area clean by picking up garbage regularly.
  • Collect aluminum cans and many donate money to a local family in need or charity.
  • To raise money to buy many trees and flowers - planting in schools, parks, streets, community spaces, etc.
  • Organize a community workshop to educate local people about: improving energy efficiency, pollution reduction, reuse and recycling, water conservation, gas saving, remove items, to encourage cycling / walk, etc.
  • Working with a local government employee or professional knowledge (and teach others) air quality, water test for lead or clean, audit of asbestos, audits, energy levels radon, hazardous waste, etc.
  • Contact your National Park Ranger to organize a project to clean up trails, parks, campgrounds, river beds, planting trees, etc.
