MarketplaceBecoming A ChiropractorPosted on March 11, 2010. What about when the thought of becoming a chiropractor? I am interested in becoming a chiropractor. (This may be one of those questions where only a chiropractor should respond.) And I was wondering what are some things I think when doing research in the field and while I am considering this. Being a chiropractor is not an easy job. This job is very manual and we are the only doctors who did put their hands on patients. The work can be very demanding on your body and hands (manual therapy, massage, and adjusting patients). Many patients come to you as a last resort seeking relief from pain. Chiropractors treat conditions of pain from head to toe joints, muscles, bones, nerves, etc. .. so you will not get bored in this profession if you like freeing people from pain. One day you could be the treatment of a shoulder, the other could be a headache, and the next could be back pain. You need to decide which school to attend. There are 18 chiropractic schools across the U.S. and two in Canada. Some schools are more medically oriented, while others are more philosophical grounds. You also need to examine the state where you intend to exercise the scope of practice varies from state to state. All 50 states license chiropractors, and some states allow acupuncture, others not, etc. .. If you really enjoy working with your hands to relieve the physical pain of injured patients without the use of drugs or surgery, the profession may be right for you.
