When do you need an assessment?

There are a variety of reasons why doctors should evaluate their professional practice. These reasons are usually motivated by another party who want to confirm the dollar value placed on practice. The other party may be a buyer, a future partner, ex partner, creditor or divorcing spouse. This party is always a person or organization seeking to validate the integrity of the practice.

What is an assessment of chiropractic practice?

An evaluation of chiropractic practice is a thorough review of your practice. The assessment process evaluates many factors which in total is equal to its value.

This equation has two basic components that generate the practical value and are classified as tangible assets and intangible assets. Tangible assets include all offices and professional equipment, instruments, furniture, leasehold improvements and equipment. The intangible assets include but are not limited to goodwill, patient records, portability and phone numbers.

The standard by which an assessment is made has been developed by the IRS Federal as described below:

Evaluations should be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. The answer is yes, but the factors that influence the value equation for each individual practice.

There are three basic approaches to determine a practical or commercial value, they include:

1. Market approach - Assess the practices of other chiropractic sold value equal to that at issue and determines the value of the dollar.
2. Income Approach - Determine the net income of the practice and multiply this value by a multiplier. " The multiplier is calculated as the number of variables that are tangible and intangible characteristics of the practice.
3. In active methods - When income has little interest in the value of practice, the market value of the assets will be equal to the practical value.

The many factors that contribute to the goodwill or intangible professional practice are not as clearly defined as tangible factors. The values that are attached to each factor are determined by public opinion. The appraiser must define a value to each of the following features practical to calculate the value of goodwill.

• Time the practice has been in operation
• The gross output compared to net income
• Philosophy and nature of practice
• The retention of key employees or staff
• Extent of the Non-Competition
• Transferability
• patient profile
• Place of practice
• Rate
• recovery rate
• Significant trends
• Source of new patients
