Hospice PittsburghSpecter, Casey Announce Funding for projects in the South-Western Pennsylvania

Omnibus spending program contains funding for major initiatives of local communities in Washington, DC - December 14, 2009. U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey announced today that the U.S. Congress has approved federal funding for a number of projects in southwestern Pennsylvania. The projects are part of the FY 2010 Appropriations Act on the junction, a measure that includes funding for several federal agencies, as well as local transportation, housing, health, education and implementation of programs laws.

"This funding will help improve our roads, schools, hospitals, and the prevention of crime and develop our workforce and small businesses," said Senator Specter. "I am pleased to see this work to advance the financing of major infrastructure that make our local execution."

"This money is great news for southwestern Pennsylvania and I am pleased Congress has approved this funding," said Senator Casey. "I will continue working with Senator Specter and the rest of the Pennsylvania delegation to create jobs and promote economic growth by supporting the transport investment required, quality health care, education and financial services initiatives , enhanced security and law enforcement programs and a strong national defense. "

The Senate passed the bill to pass Sunday 57-39, and the House of Representatives approved the measure on Thursday. The FY2010 Consolidated Appropriations Act, will now be forwarded to the President to be signed into law.

Transport
4 million dollars to build transportation infrastructure in the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County. (Specter, Casey; Shuster-Olver)

$ 625,000 to improve the East Chestnut Street Garage in Washington County. (Specter, Murtha)
$ 500,000 to repair a runway in Washington County Airport in Washington County. (Specter, Tim Murphy)
$ 487,000 for the improvement of Route 422 and Route 60 exchange in Union Township, Lawrence County. (Specter, Casey)
974,000 dollars for urban redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh to build a pedestrian ceiling above I-579. This project creates a new urban green space and reconnects the Lower Hill District in downtown. (Casey)

Urban Development and Housing
$ 200,000 for the revitalization project Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Inc. for the planning, design and redevelopment of downtown Ellwood City. (Specter, Altmire)
$ 194,800 for Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation in Allegheny County for the planning, design, site preparation, demolition and construction associated with the redevelopment of brownfields. (Specter, Doyle)

Financial

Military Construction and Veterans Affairs
$ 12.4 million for the Base of Pittsburgh Air Reserve in Allegheny County for construction of Phase 1 of the appearance quarts airmen. (Specter, Casey)
11.8 million dollars to build an Army Reserve Center in Uniontown (Fayette County). (Budget of the President)

Workforce Training
$ 100,000 for Manchester Bidwell Corporation Allegheny County to help establish the Electronic Health Record Training Program (EHRTP) at Bidwell Training Center (BTC) to train students to master data accuracy and maintaining documentation electronic health records in physician practice. (Specter)
