Natural remedies for arthritis in dogs? Does anyone know of any natural remedies that can safely relieve my discomfort arthritis dogs? The vet already put in glucosamine chondroitin but it hasn't helped much. She always has a real hard time with stairs and climb on the couch. Shes only 5 years.
Yucca and Devil's Claw are the only two that I had heard reliable accounts of success. I'm not normally enter the herbal thing, but I saw horses and dogs do very well on that I said what the heck and tried it on one of my old hunting dog who began to real stiff. It really make a noticeable difference in her. She was still hunting for 14 years. Another alternative is to put in flexicose instead of glucosamine and chondroiton it is now. It has both plus it MSM, yucca and certain vitamins.
Acupuncture is another decent option and I saw the horses work pretty well.
Definitely add the granulated enzyme Irinyi suggested ..... and go buy a bottle of lavender essential oil from any health food store. Ask your pure virgin olive oil on hand too. Mix a few drops of lavender oil with olive oil in the palm of your hand. Massage the emotional areas. Rosemary essential oil is also useful.
Good luck to you.
-orthopedic dog beds
-Change for a better diet
Slow-and shorter works
-Supplements
-Acupuncture for dogs
-Swimming in hot water (aka hydrotherapy for dogs)
-Massage and heat of a heat lamp / bed also helps.
The heat feels good and makes his hips more flexible. Try placing a hot water bottle on hot spots for 5 minutes or more and see how it works. Also, what dog food you give him? I had a dog with hip dysplasia just 3 years. She ate Alpo, then I moved on to a dog food quality has also been glucosamine and chondroitin in the ingredients. Amazing change! In two months, it could move much easier. She went on to live five more years with little discomfort to her hips until the end. A soft place to sleep helps a lot, especially if its near a heat source. You can get special warm beds for arthritic animals too. I hope all this helps.
Check out this link on dog food: www.dogfoodanalysis.com
And here is the main form of this food, it isn't recommended: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_ ...
The formula you're feeding the dog food is decent, but you can try to find one that has the ingredients for joint health in addition to the supplements you are already giving.
My boyfriend is routine chiropractic and acupuncture treatments. You can find a holistic vet in your area here: http://ahvma.org
He also gets a little apple cider vinegar in his water bowl. And some supplements of vitamin C. My holistic vet also recommended a buffered aspirin (grade human) with food on days it is really bad.
There are some interesting things other supplements offered here: http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/arthriti ...
I have a Great Dane 7 years, 8 months ago she started to limp and she looked in pain all the time, having tried diets and medications, I find granule enzymes. Like a miracle, a few days, she was active and running like a puppy. Try it, you'll be surprised. I know there are many brands, but it is one I used. www.nzymes.com
"The power of the body to restore and repair, or simply work better when it receives the resources it needs is a wonderful thing to see.
Each pet, regardless of age must have a source of daily life of food enzymes in their diet to help replenish the body.
