My nephew needed emergency dental care and my niece has scoliosis, orthopedic. The mother, my sister will not give me their SS # 's so I can make the medicine. Im frustrated and need help. Im not getting any help for them and will fianancial well financially in a few weeks but she will not cooperate. This is the same sister who has a father addiction. The drugs just left out of state with his girlfriend and not give me anything other than attorney. I need legal documents proving that I keep for SS dept to release. What can I do?
You need to start a paper trail from DYFS DIVISION OF SOCIAL SERVICE!
Report your sister and get documentation from them and they can help you to get Social Security numbers of school or force your sister to provide those numbers ..
In addition, depending on what state you live in, they can get medical coverage and emergency dental care for them ..
Your great-aunt to take care of these children!
They will love you forever!
Jump to SSA.GOV and order replacement cards social security for them. You can register as their guardian, since you have custody. And the new cards sent to your address. As proof of legal custody, you should return to the courthouse - to visit the office of the clerk and request a certified copy of the order of the judge who gave custody to you.
The Department of Family Services in your district aware of the situation? If your sister has already made a claim, they will have the information. You can also try contacting the doctor, she took them when they were in custody to see if he / she would be willing to listen to the situation and provide any information.
What would I do if I were you, it's children call services and inform them of the situation. Ask them to give you a strong child care so you can get the SS # 's and everything you need for them. Unless they find you to be unfit for yourself. Then your screwed.
You must file in family court for custody of these children. This is your first step.
Secondly, you need to go down with what you have to social security and from there, if they can not help you, they know who can!
Third, get off at dept of social services and an application for Medicaid, tell them the situtation and you'll be surprised to see how they are prepared to help children.
The best place to start would be the website of the Office of social security at www.socialsecurity.gov. There is a wealth of information there and if all else fails find the nearest Social Security to go to. The documents will help in this case, such as birth certificates. But visit the website or your local office, which also appear on the website is a free number you can call.
If you have legal custody, then you are the legal guardian. There is no reason for a government to hold information if your statements are true. Should be fairly easy to obtain the birth certificate of the County Clerk records that could be used as identification to obtain SS # .. However, if you have legal custody you could get SS # right of the SSA office. Just show them the issue of court documents that you assign as legal guardian.
Easiest would be to go to their old doctor, as they have seen before and ask for records to be released, the complete file. It should contain SS #. However, because of HIPAA, you must still prove that you have legal custody.
