Physical Therapy Assistant

Posted on March 26, 2010.
Physical Therapy AssistantIs there a difference between a physical therapy assistant and physical therapy technician?

I was looking for physical therapy assistant course and I came across a bunch of names for this certification.
* Physical Therapy Assistant
* Physiotherapy Technician
* Help physiotherapy

- Are they all the same thing?

No

An aide or technology are the same. They do not have a degree. Essentially, they can not legally, but clean, rep count and secretarial work.

A PTA is a person with a degree in two years in physiotherapy. They take an exam and get liscenced in the state they practice. They help the physical therapist. They may treat patients under the direction of a PT. They can not evaluate, set goals, establish treatment plans or treating without supervision (by a PT). Here is a list of schools that are accredited to offer the PTA.

Here is a website by the PT and PTA national professional organization

Hope this helps. Email me if you have further questions.
