How do I do with images grosteque disease? My name is Jackie and I am currently a major concern of nursing. This will be another year before applying for nursing school. I have a strong desire to become a nurse, but I do not think I can handle patients with deformities, skin diseases, and things like that. Today I saw a picture of man with Pellegr and I increased to the point where I got chills in the back. What should I do to overcome my fear?
You're either overcome this fear or change of career. If you do not find it possible, then try something in the medical field such as technology, or radiology. There are all sorts of medical specialty. To be a nurse and succeed, you must love people, and that means all people, no matter what problem they have. Please do not go into nursing with this attitude. Chances are you will not go beyond the recommendations of instructors anyway.
Nursing can be a thankless task for many hours, days without end, and violent patients. To be a good nurse you need nerves of steel, a thick skin, the ability to think on the fly, and an almost photographic memory.
It's a miracle that you have not seen the patient himself and fly into a corner, crying while losing your lunch.
I would suggest you take a few days off, or get a part-time employment during their studies and work as a CNA. It gives you a good experience, you can use to get a job later, you elbows inside edge of friction with some good nurses, and at least a job to fall back on.
Your experience will give you an idea of what you are looking forward to nursing, or if you want to point your training elsewhere.
