What schools in Indiana have diagnostic programs for medical ultrasound? I'm looking into the programs of medical diagnostic ultrasound. I live in southern Indiana, so if theres something in Louisville that would be great too. I find it difficult to close all programs. please help if u know.
When considering the introduction of an ultrasound, you should not be concerned as the certificate vs. degree. What is important is that you go to an accredited program, either college or hospital. An accredited program allows you to take your registry (licensing) exams upon graduation. Once you get a license, you will never be asked about your schooling again. An employer does not care what route you take to get a license, they just want you have this license.
Do not waste your time or money on a program not approved. In the end, and a diploma from a program not accredited, you must work in the field of sonography for a full year before taking your license examination. But you will hardly find an employer to hire you, unless you are authorized.
I suggest you observe an imaging department to get an idea of what sonographers do everyday. There is much more that the scanning of pregnant women. Most people have no idea how much is involved in this career!
You can find a list of accredited schools in your area by searching "diagnostic medical sonography" and your status on the following site. There are links provided for each program, giving you additional information (including course duration and prerequisites)

The only program accredited u / s in Indiana is at St. Anthony Medical Center - Crown Point.
Many people, myself included, go to school to become a radiology technologist, before continuing to ultrasound school. In fact, it may be difficult to enter the school u / s without the RT license. There are many more choices for schools for x-ray in most states. You can find them here by searching "radiography" and your state:

The salary for ultrasound technologists will vary, depending on experience and geographical location. The American Society of Radiology Technologists just did a large salary survey, in 2007. You can see how much a RT and / or ultrasound technologist averaged, per year, in your state here:
