What are the symptoms of infertility in women?

I wonder if there are women who are unable to concieve. How did you know? I have always had irregular periods, ranging from 47 to 90 days, now I have not had my period for almost six months and I'm not pregnant. My doctor said I could get a period if I wanted, but I did not really want to go on drugs. Any advice or personal stories would be appreciated.
